1-25-13 Sacramento Smackdown Ratings In [Lead In To Royal Rumble]

WWE Smackdown continued its hot streak last week. Smackdown on Friday, January 25 leading into the Royal Rumble scored a 2.08 rating, up slightly from a 2.03 rating last week.

Smackdown averaged 3.029 million viewers, up five percent from the previous week's average. Smackdown ranked #2 on cable TV behind "Gold Rush" on Discovery Channel, which drew over four million viewers.

Smackdown ranked #2 in key male demos behind Gold Rush on Friday night. The show ranked #9 among teen males, which coincides with the m12-17 rating tied for lowest of the year.

Overall, this marks the first time in nearly one year that Smackdown has drawn above a 2.0 rating for three consecutive weeks. The last time was February 2012 leading up to WrestleMania 28.

Caldwell's Analysis: Impressive showing considering WWE did not advertise The Rock or then-WWE champion C.M. Punk in-advance for the show. Apparently viewers are now expecting Rock to be part of Smackdown without having to be told in-advance. Overall, this is quite the rebound for a show that was on the verge of irrelevancy at the end of 2012.
