WWE Smackdown on Friday, February 15 scored a 1.96 rating, breaking a streak of five straight shows that topped a 2.0 rating.
Smackdown still rounded to a 2.0, but was down ten percent compared to last week's 2.16 rating.
Smackdown scored year-low viewership of 2.68 million viewers, down 16 percent from last week's viewership of 3.19 million viewers, which was the largest Smackdown audience in one full year.
Smackdown was hurt by NBA All-Star competition on ESPN and TNT, plus a large audience for "Gold Rush" on Discovery Channel. Overall, Smackdown ranked #6 on cable TV Friday night, #6 among males 18-34, and #5 among males 18-49.
In the weekly demographics, Smackdown was hit hard in the teen male demo. Smackdown's m12-17 audience was down nearly one full ratings point (45 percent) to the lowest first-run Friday rating in months.
Also, Smackdown scored year-low ratings in m18-34, m18-49, m12-34, adults 18-49, and adults 18-34. And, by wide margins.
Caldwell's Analysis: There must be a reason why WWE opted not to advertise The Rock and C.M. Punk for this Smackdown episode to keep SD's momentum going, especially after WWE had a huge, captive audience the previous Smackdown when people in the Northeast were snowed in. But, to not even advertise Rock and Punk on last Monday's Raw four days before Smackdown - where Rock and Punk had their final pre-Elimination Chamber showdown - was a curious decision. | |
