| Subject: Smackdown TV ratings are in for Friday's show - did a WHT match help ratings? Mon 06 Jun 2011, 7:13 pm | |
| http://pwtorch.com/artman2/publish/WWE_News_3/article_50576.shtml
WWE Smackdown on Friday, June 3 featuring a World Hvt. Title match scored a 1.77 rating, down from a 1.83 rating on May 27 and 1.89 rating on May 20.
Smackdown averaged 2.7 million viewers, which continued Smackdown's five-week trend of averaging fewer than 3.0 million viewers.
Prior to Smackdown's recent downturn, the show was averaging 3.06 million viewers in 2011. Smackdown is now averaging 2.98 million viewers factoring in the past five weeks.
On cable TV Friday night, Smackdown was #6 in overall viewers. Among males 18-34, it ranked #12. Among males 18-49, Smackdown was #4 overall and #1 in its timeslot. Among younger viewers and male teens, Smackdown was #1.
Despite the #1 ranking among male teens, Smackdown scored its second-lowest ratings of the year among males 12-17 and males 12-34. Smackdown was down 35 percent in m12-17 and 23 percent vs. last week's show.
Smackdown had minimal declines in the older adult male demographics. Those demo ratings fell within the 2011 range.
Caldwell's Analysis: Prior to Friday's episode, WWE did a poor job hyping the World Title match despite announcing it a week in advance. Monday on Raw, WWE set a tone for the show not being any more important than a standard episode of Smackdown using the standard in-or-out-commercial video plug for Smackdown.
All that said, WWE has entered the Summer Blues period for Friday night programming, which will likely shift the ratings downward for the next two months until Summerslam hype kicks in. The numbers are not going to be close to what the show was doing leading into and immediately following WrestleMania. It's already evident with the poor teen male ratings for this week's show. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thoughts?
Did you watch SD?
If so did you enjoy it specifically the main event?

| (Summertime + mediocre product) Seems like a perfect equation. | |

| Yeah pretty much although I almost always watch SD.
I liked the show but the ratings just keep slipping.
