| Subject: 3-22-13 SD Rating: Show Draws Big Numbers Vs NCAA Tournament Wed 27 Mar 2013, 3:35 am | |
| Smackdown's dramatic TV ratings see-saw continued last Friday.
The March 22 episode scored a 2.11 rating, up 16 percent from a 1.82 rating last week. Two weeks ago, Smackdown scored a 2.09 rating.
Smackdown averaged 2.99 million viewers, up 25 percent from last week's year-low viewership. It was the most Smackdown viewers in one-and-a-half months dating back to the Feb. 8 episode, which drew more than three million viewers.
The key to Smackdown's ratings surge was growth in the key male demos. Specifically, Smackdown scored its highest m18-34 rating of the year. All demos were up three-tenths of a rating from last week and topped the strong performance from two weeks ago.
The ratings surge came the same week the NCAA Tournament delivered big numbers for its opening weekend. On cable TV Friday night, Smackdown ranked #3 in overall viewers behind the Tournament and Disney programming, #4 in m18-34, and #3 in m18-49.
This same week in 2012, Smackdown scored nearly identical male demographic ratings, but the overall rating was a 1.80 rating as opposed to a 2.11 rating this week, showing WWE reaching a wider audience in 2013.
Caldwell's Analysis: Instead of hurting Smackdown, it appears the NCAA Tournament helped Smackdown by drawing more viewers to their TV sets on Friday night.
