WWE Smackdown's see-saw pattern during the John Cena Era continued last Friday, scoring the highest rating and most viewers since February.
Smackdown leading into Survivor Series on Friday, November 22 scored a 2.15 rating, up 13 percent from last week's 1.90 rating. It was the highest rating since February 8 during WrestleMania Season.
The Cena Era as World Hvt. champion Pattern:
Nov. 1 - 1.90 rating Nov. 8 - 2.08 rating Nov. 15 - 1.90 rating Nov. 22 - 2.15 rating
Smackdown averaged 3.106 million viewers, up 16 percent from last week's average. It was also the most viewers - and first time Smackdown has top three million viewers - since Feb. 8.
- On cable TV Friday night, Smackdown ranked #2 in overall viewers behind "Gold Rush" on Discovery, #1 in males 18-34, and #2 in males 18-49.
The overall ratings surge was a combination of increases across the board. Adults 18-34 & 18-49 were up nearly two-tenths of a rating, males 18-34 & m12-34 were up more than two-tenths, and m18-49 & teen males 12-17 were up nearly two-tenths.
Caldwell's Analysis: Very interesting developments, especially concerning Survivor Series since this was the final show before the PPV. Will the ratings surge positively impact PPV buys, especially for a weakly-promoted event?
Also interesting is this was probably the closest Smackdown has been to the Raw rating in years. The same-week Raw scored a 2.73 rating vs. the 2.15 rating for Smackdown. Any time SD has risen this high during the Syfy era has been during WrestleMania Season, which is when Raw is also surging. So, to see Raw and Smackdown this close together with Raw experiencing a downturn and SD suddenly surging is very rare. | |
