Sony aimed to enter "American Hustle" as a drama at the Golden Globes, but it was officially placed in the comedy/musical classification by vote of the HFPA eligibility committee after members saw it on Tuesday, a source tells Gold Derby.
Up till then, "American Hustle" ranked third in the race for Best Drama Picture behind "12 Years a Slave" (out front with 15-to-8 odds) and "Gravity" (second place with 27-to-10 odds), according to the predictions of Experts polled by Gold Derby. Now that it's moving over to comedy, it faces tough competition from the eight films with the best odds to land one of the five nominations.
1.) "The Wolf of Wall Street" – 10/3 2.) "Inside Llewyn Davis" – 10/3 3.) "Secret Life of Walter Mitty" – 11/2 4.) "Nebraska" – 13/2 5.) "Her" -- 12/1 6.) "Enough Said" – 12/1 7.) "August: Osage County" – 16/1 8.) "Before Midnight" – 50/1
Currently, 5 pundits have "Wolf of Wall Street" out front to win Best Drama Picture, 3 pick "Inside Llewyn Davis," 1 opts for "Nebraska," 1 backs "Enough Said." See predix here.
"About two-thirds of the HFPA members I spoke to since Tuesday say they really liked 'American Hustle,'" a source tells Gold Derby. "About one-third were indifferent. They liked it, but weren't crazy about it. No one dislikes it. Over all, they're all talking about Jennifer Lawrence."
Members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association will see "The Wolf of Wall Street" this Sunday and then will decide the final fate of its category classification. At that point, all major Golden Globe contenders will have been viewed by voters and Hollywood media. | |
