Thanksgiving TNA Impact on Thursday, December 28 officially scored a 0.72 rating off a first hour 0.73 rating and second hour 0.72 rating.
The entire show was down from the usual levels, ranging from a 0.68 rating in Q7 to a 0.76 rating in Q8. Also, Impact did not get a customary top-of-the-second-hour bump for the Aces & Eights funeral segment, scoring the same 0.72 rating in Q4 and Q5.
Impact Quarter-Hour Ratings Break Down
Q1: Impact opened with a 0.75 rating for Dixie Carter's show-opening promo and introduction of Rockstar Spud as her new assistant, plus one commercial.
Q2: Impact moved down to a 0.71 rating for ECIII vs. Curry Man, one commercial, and backstage segments.
Q3: Impact moved up to a 0.74 rating for Velvet Sky vs. Lei'D Tapa in Knockouts action, plus one commercial.
Q4: Impact moved down to a 0.72 rating for a segment with video packages, backstage segments, and two full commercial breaks.
Q5: Impact was the same with a 0.72 rating for the top-of-the-hour Aces & Eights pre-taped funeral segment, plus one commercial.
Q6: Impact moved down to a 0.70 rating for the first portion of the eight-man elimination tag match, plus one commercial.
Q7: Impact moved down to a show-low 0.68 rating for the finish of the main event tag match, one commercial, and post-match reaction.
Q8: Impact moved up to a 0.76 rating for the show-closing food fight segment and one mid-match commercial.
Caldwell's Analysis: Tough to read into this week's trends with the numbers so far below their normal levels, but no Q5 bump should be a concern. By comparison, last year's Thanksgiving episode was right at the 0.7 level during the first hour, then bumped up to a 0.8 in Q5, building momentum to finish around a 0.9 at the end of the hour.
Overall, the Thanksgiving show is damaged goods after years of tawdry and embarrassing programming setting precedent, the roster has been devalued from the top heel program, and Dixie Carter miscast as the lead heel continues to set a channel-flipping tone right at the start of the show. Yet, they continue repeating the same booking week after week expecting a different result. | |
