The Hollywood Foreign Press Assn. loves new TV shows and performers to the point that they rejected last year's big winner -- "Homeland" and its stars Claire Danes and Damian Lewis -- in favor of freshman series "House of Cards" which leads with four nominations.
The political drama, which streamed on Netflix, contends for the series prize as well as for stars Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright and supporting player Corey Stoll.
Recent Emmy winner "Breaking Bad" and the resurgent "The Good Wife" reaped three apiece. Both are in contention for Best Drama Series, while multi Emmy winners Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul are looking for their first Globe wins for the final season of "Bad." "Good Wife" star Julianna Margulies won back in 2009 while supporting actor Josh Charles picked up his first nomination.
Contending for Drama Actor against Spacey and Cranston are the stars of three freshman series: Liev Schreiber ("Ray Donovan"), Michael Sheen ("Masters of Sex") and James Spader ("The Blacklist").
For Drama Actress, Margulies and Wright also face off against a trio of newcomers: Tatiana Maslany ("Orphan Black"), Taylor Schilling ("Orange is the New Black") and Kerry Washington ("Scandal").
Among laffers, reigning champ "Girls" netted two as did newcomer "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," "The Big Bang Theory," "Modern Family and "Parks and Recreation." All contend for Best Comedy Series as well as for one performer.
Lena Dunham ("Girls") returns to defend her Comedy Actress award, against three of last year's nominees -- Zooey Deschanel ("New Girl"), two-time Emmy champ Julia Louis-Dreyfus ("Veep"), Globes co-host Amy Poehler ("Parks and Recreation") -- as well as Edie Falco ("Nurse Jackie").
Likewise, Don Cheadle ("House of Lies") is back in the running for Comedy Actor, facing off against returning nominee Jim Parsons ("The Big Bang Theory") and three newcomers: b("Arrested Development"), Globe favorite Michael J. Fox for his self-titled show and Andy Samberg ("Brooklyn Nine-Nine").

The Golden Globe nominations for TV shows and performers went mostly as we predicted.
However, as always, there were a few headscratchers which meant some of the strongest contenders were left out in the cold.
Topping that list of omissions is reigning Drama Series champ "Homeland" as well as its two stars -- two-time Drama Actress winner Claire Danes and last year's Drama Actor Damian Lewis.
Also MIA is "Game of Thrones," which reaped two SAG Awards nominations while two new Netflix series -- "Arrested Development" and "Orange is the New Black" -- reaped only performance bids.
Among new laffers, "The Crazy Ones" may be a hit for CBS, but it was a miss for Globe voters.
Below, the lists of those programs and performers who won't be in the running on Jan. 12 for the 71st annual edition of these kudos.
NOT NOMINATED: TV Drama Series "Game of Thrones" "Homeland" "Mad Men" "Orange is the New Black" "Scandal"
NOT NOMINATED: TV Drama Actor Jeff Daniels, "The Newsroom" Jon Hamm, "Mad Men" Freddie Highmore, "Bates Motel" Damian Lewis, "Homeland" Matthew Rhys, "The Americans"
NOT NOMINATED: TV Drama Actress Claire Danes, "Homeland" Michelle Dockery, "Downton Abbey" Vera Farmiga, "Bates Motel" Keri Russell, "The Americans"
NOT NOMINATED: TV Comedy Series "Arrested Development" "The Crazy Ones" "Glee" "New Girl" "Veep"
NOT NOMINATED: TV Comedy Actor Andre Braugher, "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" Ricky Gervais, "Derek" Jake Johnson, "New Girl" Robin Williams, "The Crazy Ones"
NOT NOMINATED: TV Comedy Actress Laura Dern, "Enlightened" Anna Faris, "Mom" Sarah Michelle Gellar, "The Crazy Ones" Melissa McCarthy, Mike & Molly"
