WWE Smackdown on Friday, January 3 scored a 1.88 rating, down one-tenth of a rating (six percent) from a 1.99 rating for the 2013 year-end episode.
It was the lowest rating since Thanksgiving Weekend when Smackdown scored a 1.86 rating.
- Smackdown averaged 2.616 million viewers, which was down eight percent from the final Smackdown of 2013.
It was the fewest viewers in nearly three months going back to the October 11, 2013 episode.
- On cable TV Friday night, Smackdown ranked #5 in overall viewers, a distant #7 in males 18-34, and #5 in males 18-49.
The show was propped up by an increase of three-tenths of a rating in m12-34 to help offset declines among older viewers, which likely checked into the Orange Bowl college football game on ESPN.
Caldwell's Analysis: Not much hype went into this first Smackdown of the year. Whether it was because WWE taped the show out-of-order with Raw or some other reason, WWE did not put forth much effort to promote the first Smackdown of the year compared to other yearly kick-off shows. | |
