Carlito Turns Heel

Wrestlemania 25 is always going to be an event that the Colon family remembers. That was the day when Carlito & Primo Colon became the very first ever WWE Unified Tag Team Champions.
Carlos Colon, a legendary wrestler and promoter, evcen flew into Houston, Texas to see his sons working the show. As much as he's accomplished in his own career, he must have been extremely proud to see his sons on the biggest stage of them all.
He couldn't have been more disappointed, though, to see the events that unfolded on Raw this week.
After failing to recapture the WWE Unified Tag Team Championship from Edge & Chris Jericho, Carlito's frustration finally reached a boiling point. He attacked his little brother and effectively turned heel again.
That's right. Carlito is back to being in his proper role as a singles heel.

Primo Colon made his WWE debut approximately 11 months ago. Unfortunately, though, the split with his brother could signal the end of his tenure with the company.
It is widely believed that Primo Colon was basically called up to the main roster for two reasons.
For one, the company wanted to bring him up because Vince McMahon had put a premium on second generation wrestlers. Primo Colon already had an advantage over the other developmental wrestlers because of his last name.
The other reason why the company promoted Primo Colon was because they wanted to keep Carlito in the company. He had threatened to leave WWE, but the company convinced him to stick around because of his little brother.
Carlito & Primo Colon weren't very successful as a tag team despite being given four title belts by the company to wear. They never did manage to capture the audience's attention and admiration.
Primo Colon did nothing during the past 11 months to make him stand out above the rest. In the limited time that he was allowed to speak, he clearly did not possess the natural charisma that his brother has.
The company will probably try to utilize him as a singles wrestler for a bit, but they'll quickly release him once they realize that he's not going to be able to make it on his own.

On the flip side, though, this split could end up being a very good thing for Carlito's career. He could be in line for a major push from WWE that he had been seeking prior to the days of him demanding a release.
About 5 years ago, Carlito made his debut on Smackdown. It was a debut that has to rank as one of the best one in the history of the company. He was given a nice push right off the bat by winning the United States Heavyweight Championship on his very first night.
Carlito then quickly won over the audience with his natural charisma and unique character. Many had started predicting that Carlito was guaranteed a spot as a future main event heel.
However, that push never came. For some reason or another, the company refused to throw him into the main event scene.
With the WWE main event scene looking pretty thin with the absence of several superstars (Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, Batista, and Edge), now is as good of a time as any for WWE to promote Carlito into that spot.
Carlito will either get his main event push now, or he's going to walk away from the company.

WWE Easing Up On Marijuana

The word going around backstage is that WWE has eased up on punishing wrestlers for marijuana.

Marijuana is not one of the drugs that can cause a wrestler to be fired. It doesn't count as one of the three strikes that a wrestler is given. Wrestlers who are caught with marijuana in their systems are only required to pay a $1,000 fine.

The company also had an unwritten policy where they stopped pushing wrestlers who fail a drug test because of marijuana.

Brian Kendrick is one of the wrestlers who have opted to smoke marijuana instead of being pushed. He reportedly has failed numerous drug tests, which has caused the company to stop pushing him.

The company still fines the wrestlers when they are caught with the drug in their system. However, they are now pushing wrestlers even if they do smoke marijuana. It's been said that a number of the top level superstars have started smoking again because they no longer fear that their pushes would be jeopardized.

Candice Michelle's Asking Price

Candice Michelle is asking for a fortune if you want her to make an appearance at one of your events.

Well, it's not exactly a fortune, but it is still quite a bit of money for independent wrestling promoters to come up with.

The former WWE Women's Champion is asking for $5,000 per appearance now that she has been released from her WWE contract. There's been no confirmation if that amount of money is going to be for wrestling or just for appearances.

While she does have some name value from her stint in WWE and her appearances in the GoDaddy.com commercials, that asking price is believed to be a lot higher than what most wrestling promoters would be willing to pay. She should still be able to help generate a couple of extra ticket sales to events, but it probably won't be enough to cover the fee that she's asking for.

The belief is that Candice Michelle is asking for a high number because she's not all that interested in returning to the wrestling scene. She would make the appearance because $5,000 is a large amount of money, especially on the independent wrestling circuit.

Candice Michelle is said to be financially stable at the moment. She still generates some income from her advertising gigs. Also, her husband has a very well paying job in the medical field.

Mayor Jerry Lawler

While the rest of the company was off on a different side of the planet, long time WWE announcer Jerry Lawler decided to stick around and make a major announcement.
Early this morning, Jerry Lawler went on to a radio show and announced that he was going to be running for mayor of Memphis later this year. The election is scheduled to take place in October.
The former USWA Heavyweight Champion is hoping to replace Willie Herenton, the mayor who appears to have become one of the biggest villains in the city of Memphis.

Just so you know, this is not the first time that Jerry Lawler has ran for mayor. In fact, this isn't the first time that he's gone to battle against Willie Herenton either.
In 1999, Jerry Lawler ran for mayor of Memphis. He finished third in the voting, with nearly 12% of the votes. However, he lost out to Willie Herenton, who was running for re-election.
Of course, that was before Willie Herenton had this much "heat" (to borrow a phrase from the world of professional wrestling).

Even though Jerry Lawler is running for a political office, he still claims that he's not a politician. He refuses to label himself as something that he holds a high disregard towards.
The 59 year old Memphis native stresses that he is only running for office because he wants to make the city a better place for its citizens to call home.
Aside from the typical focus that every single politician claims is important (education, safer streets, fiscal responsibility, etc), Jerry Lawler also stated that he wanted to focus on drawing more businesses into the city.
It will be a huge challenge for Jerry Lawler to deliver on the promises that he has given.

It's going to be an even bigger challenge for Jerry Lawler to hide the skeletons in his closet.
For one, Jerry Lawler hasn't exactly avoided the police radar in his lifetime.
Jerry Lawler was accused of rape and sodomy by a 15 year old girl. While it was proven to be a scam, Jerry Lawler's reputation took quite a hit. The 39 year veteran of the wrestling business was also arrested for an incident in which he assaulted a police officer.
If it wasn't enough that he has some black marks of his own, Jerry Lawler is going to have to deal with the troubles that his two sons (one of whom is former WWE star Grandmaster Sexay) have been getting into as of late.
Anyone that runs against Jerry Lawler is going to have plenty of ammo if they want to run a smear campaign.

In case you're wondering, if Jerry Lawler does manage to win the mayor job, then his WWE career will be over. He will be forced to vacate his spot as the color commentator on Raw.
He might still make some special guest appearances, but don't expect to see him be available every Monday night (and the occasional Sunday nights for pay per views).

Edge Turning Babyface
Edge has been a heel since 2004. Do the math, and you'll easily realize that it's been an eternity (in wrestling years, that is) since he's been a babyface.
What's even more amazing than the longevity of his run as a heel is that Edge has managed to keep it going without really growing stale. The company has managed to keep him fresh with the following storylines.

  • Money in the Bank winner.
  • Affair with Lita.
  • Feud with Matt Hardy.
  • Stealing the belt from John Cena by cashing in the Money in the Bank.
  • A hardcore feud with Mick Foley.
  • Teaming up with Mick Foley.
  • Forming Rated RKO with Randy Orton.
  • Forming an alliance with Vickie Guerrero and La Familia.

As incredible as the streak has been, there's always going to come the point where creative is going to run out of ideas. In order to freshen Edge up again, they would eventually have to turn him back into a babyface.
Just days after Edge suffered a devastating Achilles Heel injury, it has been revealed that there were plans being formulated to turn him into a hero again.
We were this close to seeing Edge as a babyface again.

Considering how good Edge is at being a heel, it was going to take quite a force for the writers to be able to get fans to root for him again. His character is so defined now that the fans instantly boo him on command.
In terms of being the top heel in the company, Edge has the slight lead ahead of Randy Orton in the race.
So, just how do you get the audience to support Edge again?
Quite simple. You pair him up with someone that is almost as despised by the audience as Edge. You pair him up with Chris Jericho. Let the two run wild for a few months, followed by a split.
That would have been the best way to have turned Edge into a babyface. We may never know how WWE was going to do it, but it's quite likely that they would have gone this route.

If you're having a hard time being able to imagine Edge as a top level babyface, then you simply don't understand just how talented and passionate Adam Copeland is about the business.
In this business, only a handful of people actually manage to "get it". Some wrestlers get to the point where they truly understand what it takes to become successful regardless of the role that they're placed into.
Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Chris Jericho, and the Undertaker are examples of guys in the company that "get it". Kurt Angle, Mick Foley, Jeff Jarrett, Kevin Nash, Sting, and Booker T are examples from TNA of guys that "get it".
Edge is someone that has an incredible understanding of the business. He knows how to connect with the audience. He knows what it takes to join John Cena as the company's top babyface.
Kevin Nash once stated that to be the main event guy, you have to be someone that guys want to be and someone that women want to be with.
Edge knows how to be that.
