Whale Rider and North Country director Niki Caro has signed on to direct Buttercup for Michael London’s Groundswell Productions, The Hollywood Reporter confirms. She replaces Sarah Polley, who had been attached to direct the comedy/drama previously.
Alice O’Neil wrote the script, about a middle-aged widower who tries to get his life back in order with the help of his daughter. There is no word on casting yet.
Caro’s new French winemaking film The Vintner’s Luck — reuniting her with Whale Rider actress Keisha Castle-Hughes — will have its world premiere at September’s Toronto International Film Festival.
