August 21, 2009 - You don't have to be a psychic to know a new Rock Band was coming.
After taking a year off from the annual franchise to release its first artist-specific game, The Beatles: Rock Band, it appears Harmonix Music is coming back with a bang for it's third official installment.
In an interview with MCV, head of MTV Games Scott Guthrie discussed what the company plans to do moving forward with the series. When asked if we'll see the next Rock Band or another artist game in 2010, Guthrie said we'll probably see both.
"We're exploring both – and possibly will do both," he said. "The Harmonix development team are working on what is effectively the next game, or 'Rock Band 3'.
But rather than put out another kit with newer set lists, Guthrie assured the music genre won't remain static with its newer titles.
"We aren't standing still – we will keep moving into new areas and look at new technologies that our platform holder partners are also developing, such as Project Natal from Microsoft," Guthrie added. "We're working with them to pull some things together. So it's pretty exciting time for the future of our music game business."
