| New Years’ Revolution – Mickie James* vs Victoria (Women’s title match): The bitch is baaaaaaaaack. Well I’m positive this is the last push Victoria ever received in WWE and it was about time since she was Mickie’s only legit competition. She brings down the checklist to the ring and leaves it with the announcers, telling them to watch and learn. Victoria shoves Mickie down and gets a belly to back suplex and a bridging camel clutch. She leaps into a front facelock but Mickie gets a hammerlock in. Victoria reverses it but Mickie gets a monkey flip. Victoria locks a headlock in but Mickie trips her and gets in two arm drags and a dropkick. Victoria reverses Mickie’s hurricanrana and kicks her off the apron and follows up with a baseball slide. She then drops her on the guard rail and taunts Lillian Garcia for some reason. Victoria chokes Mickie at the ropes and knees her in the back. She throws Mickie across the ring and misses a moonsault from the middle rope. Mickie comes back with a clothesline and back elbow. She knocks Victoria down with a punch that would make Mike Tyson proud. She lands her hurricanrana and Victoria rolls to the apron but Melina runs down to interfere. Mickie fights them both off but Melina stops Mickie from doing the DDT. Victoria sets Mickie up for the Widow’s Peak but Mickie rolls through. Maria and Candice run down to stop Melina. Victoria sets Mickie up for a military press but Mickie counters into a spinning DDT for the win. Good match but I wish Victoria had been given another chance. 7/10
No Way Out - Diva Talent Invitational: The Miz is hosting, he should bring that hairstyle back. first up are Extreme Expose and it's so weird to see Layla as a face. her hair is really quite scary she's a dead ringer for Mel B. they do a sexy dance routine with Layla being easily hottest and Kelly doing some good gymnastics. Brooke doesn't really do much. Jillian Hall is next up, JBL refers to her as "Britney Spears with hair". after warming up with a mouth organ she sings her current theme song until Miz ends the agony, referring to her as the "chick version of William Hung". she cuts a promo saying the other divas are "talentless bitches" (interesting choice of words there). Candice, Maria and Ariel come out and all six divas start beating Jillian up. a catfight ensues until Ashley comes out to present her Playboy cover. she then pulls a Sable and has Playboy bunnies painted on her boobs which are awesome. needless to say she wins. actually pretty entertaining. N/A
WrestleMania 23 - Melina* vs Ashley (Lumberjill match for the Women's title): JBL and Michael Cole are calling this one and our Lumberjills come out to Torrie Wilson’s music; they are Torrie, Mickie James, Candice Michelle, Maria, Kelly Kelly, Trinity, Layla, Kristal Marshall, Victoria, Jillian Hall, Brooke Adams and Michelle McCool. Ashley has a blown up version of her Playboy cover on the screen while Melina is wearing some strange looking fur cape. Ashley started off throwing Melina down and hammering on her with a few punches. Melina fled outside but the Lumberjills pushed her right back in and she dropped Ashley off the ropes. She choked Ashley in the corner with her boot, Ashley then did the same but Melina knocked her down and choked her off the ropes, shrieking “you think you’re better than me!” before knocking her down again. Melina then executed a Giant Swing on the challenger which was probably the only move done flawlessly in this match. When Ashley kicked out of the pin, Melina locked in a surfboard but Ashley followed up with a sloppy head-scissors. With Melina in the corner Ashley got a monkey flip in but missed her Star Struck finisher. She managed to kick out of Melina’s pin and rolled the champ up. Melina reversed it into a roll-up of her own, bridging as the ref counted to three. Ashley attacked Melina afterwards and a catfight broke out in the ring as the Lumber Jills joined in. Awful, awful match and the ending was an obvious botch; Melina bridged when the ref had already counted and neither woman was ready for this match. It should have gone to someone who could actually wrestle and these two should have been in a pillow fight or something. 3/10
Backlash - Melina* vs Mickie James (Women's title match): well following the WrestleMania match anything would look good but I think this is the debut of Mickie’s bell-bottom attire. The girls lock up with Mickie taking control with a fireman’s carry. Melina gets an arm lock, Mickie cartwheels into a monkey flip and side headlock takeover. Melina locks in a headscissors, Mickie jumps out of it. Melina gets a snapmare but Mickie locks a headscissors of her own. Melina claims to have something wrong with her eye but was playing possum and clocks Mickie who monkey flips her. Mickie goes up top and Melina knocks her to the outside so she nearly misses the 10 count. Melina gets a hairpull whip and chokes Mickie at the ropes. She locks in a unique submission where she uses her legs to put Mickie in a reverse surfboard effect and uses the ropes for leverage until the ref stops her. Melina chokes her in the corner and lands a sit-down press off the top rope. They both get knocked onto the mat so they’re both in a split-legged position but Mickie gets a low dropkick and series of clotheslines. Hair-grab takeover by Mickie and a hanging neckbreaker but Melina kicks out at 2. Mickie goes for her hurricanrana but lands a diving crossbody instead. Melina kicks Mickie in the head and scores with the Primal Scream to get the win. Great fundamental match that had the right length. This should have been the Mania match. 7/10
One Night Stand – Melina Vs Candice Michelle (Pudding match): How do we get people to take Candice seriously as a contender? Well putting her in one of the most blatant fanservice matches is not an answer. Melina comes out with goggles and a snorkel on and Candice snapmares her into the pudding. I’m surprised JR kept a straight face through it. There’s rolling around in the pudding naturally until Melina takes a powder and Candice spears her right back in. Oh who cares about the recap, Candice wins by nearly drowning Melina. Yep this is what Melina and Ashley should have been in at WrestleMania while the girls with more experience did the proper wrestling. Since it is a match I have to rate it with an extra point for comedy. 4/10
Vengeance: Night of Champions – Melina* vs Candice Michelle (Women’s title match): Well at least it’s wrestling now. There’s an awesome crowd sign that says “Jail Melina with Paris Hilton” and Candice gets a good pop. Melina teases a test of strength but kicks Candice downstairs (JR calls it a Greco-Roman knuckle lock). Candice chokes Melina with her version of the Tarantula but Melina kicks her down. She gets a headscissors to ram Candice’s face off the mat. She headbutts Candice and charges her in the corner, choking her with her legs. Candice gets a nice roll up for two and Melina locks in a bow and arrow. Candice sends her to the outside briefly and drops her throat off the ropes also landing a powerslam before doing the Go Daddy dance into an elbow drop. She gets a running facecrusher but Melina kicks out and gets a neckbreaker. The ref has her move Candice from the ropes but she kicks out. Candice gets a spinning heel kick to get the win and she is the first Diva Search contestant to win the title. Melina looks strangely like Ivory when they cut a shot of her annoyed. Candice bursts into tears and can barely walk back up the ramp. Not bad but could have been a whole lot better. 5/10
Great American Bash – Melina vs Candice Michelle* (Women’s title match): Candice gets a great ovation during her entrance and there is a guy in the crowd with a sign that says “Hard Work pays off, Candice”. Melina starts off with a wrist lock and Candice delivers a side headlock takeover for two. Melina locks in a headscissors which Candice reverses into a bridging pin. Melina bridges out of the pin into a backslide. Snapmare and neck snap by Candice. Melina goes for a hip toss but Candice counters into a fireman’s carry and follows up with a bridge pin. Melina knees Candice in the abdomen in the corner and drops her arm off the rope. She continues to work on the arm and locks in a standing criss cross choke and drops Candice down. She locks in a surfboard but Candice throws her forward. She fights back with punches, dropkick and a discus clothesline. She goes up top and lands a diving crossbody for two. Melina comes back with a split-legged neckbreaker but shrieks when Candice kicks out. Candice gets a flying crossbody but misses the spinning heel kick. After a jawbreaker Candice goes for an Unprettier but Melina counters so Candice lands a standing bulldog for the win. Great match and I think Candice’s best. 7/10
SummerSlam – Battle royal for #1 contender’s match: Candice makes her way to the ring to scout the talent, she now has that godawful techno theme. Participants are Maria, Beth Phoenix, Melina, Mickie James, Jillian Hall, Torrie Wilson, Victoria, Kristal, Michelle McCool, Kelly Kelly, Layla and Brooke Adams. These clusterfuck battle royals are never good to watch but it’s good it gets enough time. It’s a bit hard to see what’s going on and anyone with epilepsia shouldn’t watch it. Brooke is out first by Beth, Maria chokes Jillian in the corner but gets knocked off. Layla gets thrown out by Melina, leaving Kelly as the only Extreme Expose member. Jillian tries to eliminate Mickie and there is a loud chorus of boos when Kristal eliminates Victoria. Michelle McCool kicks Kristal out while Beth, Torrie and Melina eliminate Kelly. Mickie tries her hurricanrana on Jillian but Torrie eliminates Jillian and Melina eliminates Mickie. Final 4 are Torrie, Melina, McCool and Beth. Melina chokes Torrie and lands a sit down press and walks into a big boot from McCool. A loud chorus of cheers come when McCool and Torrie throw Melina out. The two faces try to double team Beth but Torrie is thrown out, leaving McCool alone. She gets a European uppercut in before Beth picks her up and throws her out. Beth wins a title shot. Not that great a match but good for advancing a feud. 5/10
Unforgiven – Candice Michelle* vs Beth Phoenix (Women’s title match): A promo airs showing all the destruction Beth has been wreaking on the divas and she comes out looking quite similar to Bull Nakano. Beth throws Candice to the mat and Candice tries a headlock. She tries to go for a springboard bulldog but Beth throws her off. Candice tries a suplex but Beth lifts her up and drops her. Candice ducks Beth’s attacks and lands an arm drag off the top rope. Beth reverses a headscissors into a tilt-a-whirl side slam. Beth smashes Candice’s face into the corner. She presses her elbow into Candice’s back and throws her down. She gets in an elevated chicken wing and throws Candice down. Beth locks in a sleeper hold and then a surfboard. Candice reverses into a Candy Wrapper attempt but Beth counters. Candice gets a body scissors and gets knocked down again. Beth gets in her overhead back breaker but Candice does not give up. She wriggles out into a neckbreaker. Candice gets a dropkick and clothesline and an Edge-o-matic without the pin but Beth shoves her into the corner. Beth raises Candice up for a military press and drops her onto the mat. Candice manages to kick out and Beth goes for a Samoan drop but Candice reverses into a crucifix pin for a lucky victory. Strands of Candice’s hair are visible on the mat and Beth looks mad. Great match and some nice storytelling from both girls. 7/10
No Mercy – Candice Michelle* vs Beth Phoenix (Women’s title match): Beth kinda looks like she’s dressed as a can-can girl for Halloween while Candice comes out in a coat with angel wings on it. Beth throws Candice across the ring and chops her in the corner. Candice slightly fluffs a bridging pin but Beth kicks out. Beth shoulder blocks Candice who kicks her repeatedly. She gets a low dropkick for two and locks in a short arm scissors. Beth rolls through but Candice goes for a crossbody and Beth catches her into a sidewalk slam. She locks in a sleeper hold and Candice uses the ropes for leverage but Beth reverses her move into a backbreaker. Candice rolls through and goes for a pin. Beth gets a headlock and Candice runs into the corner to shake her off. Candice fights back with clotheslines and a spinning heel kick. She goes up top and lands the crossbody this time. Beth charges Candice in the corner who gets a sunset flip for two. Beth lands a backbreaker across the knee and lands a Fisherman’s suplex for the surprise win. Afterwards she gives a teary interview where she announces that they are in the era of the Glamazon. Too short and the ending was too weak. Still good but there could have been so much more. 6/10
Survivor Series – Beth Phoenix, Layla, Victoria, Jillian Hall & Melina vs Mickie James, Torrie Wilson, Kelly Kelly, Michelle McCool & Maria (10 diva tag team match): If Candice wasn’t injured I’d replace Kelly with her to even the teams out a bit. Beth has three wrestlers and one model on her team while Mickie has three models and one wrestler, go figure. Melina snots herself during her entrance and bursts out laughing so she does it again. McCool and Victoria start off and McCool gets a suplex and clothesline following up with a big boot. Torrie tags in and goes to work but Victoria lands the Spider’s Web for two. Layla tags in and misses a roundhouse kick. Torrie takes forever to hook her arm for a snap suplex. Kelly and Jillian tags in and Jillian does the boob rub. Kelly kicks her as she goes for the handspring elbow and fluffs a bridging pin. Maria tags in and gets Jillian with Seeing Stars. Beth tags in and plants Maria with a backbreaker. Layla tags herself back in and rubs Maria’s face into the mat. Melina tags in and gets a guillotine kick on Maria. She puts her onto the ropes but misses the knee thing (her crotch must be painful tonight, Morrison probably had to rub a lot of ice on it later). Mickie tags in and goes to work, kicking Layla off the apron and getting a Thesz press on Melina. Kelly knocks Jillian off, Mickie punches Victoria off and Torrie and McCool knock Beth off. Melina goes for a neckbreaker but Mickie reverses, snogs Melina and gets a roundhouse kick for the win. Fair match but a little too rushed. 5/10
Armageddon – Mickie James vs Beth Phoenix* (Women’s title match): I’m a little surprised that Mickie and Beth only had one singles match on PPV despite feuding for ages. Before the match starts out comes Jillian Hall and oh God she has a microphone. She plugs her album (which outsold Brooke Hogan’s I might add). She proceeds to sing “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” until Mickie ends the agony and the match gets underway. Beth tosses Mickie down who tries a springboard DDT but Beth counters. Mickie goes for her hurricanrana but Beth counters into a powerbomb. She stands on Mickie and chokes her at the ropes. Snapmare by Beth into a dragon sleeper and she then hangs Mickie in the tree of woe but Mickie rolls Beth up for two. Beth locks in a chicken wing but Mickie won’t quit and fights out of it. She kicks Beth in the chin and lands her hurricanrana properly and a Thesz press. She gets another and a running low dropkick to Beth in a sitting position. Hanging neckbreaker by Mickie and she goes up top, landing a missile dropkick. Beth counters the DDT and gets a Fisherman’s suplex for the pin. Too short a match but still good. 6/10 | |
