WWE Smackdown on Friday, September 30 scored a 1.95 rating, down from a record 2.30 rating the previous week on Sept. 23.
It was the third-highest rating since the WWE Draft in April behind the previous week's show and the July 29 Smackdown when Triple H debuted on Smackdown as COO.
Smackdown averaged 2.94 million viewers Friday night, down from an average of 3.26 million the previous week, but the show only trailed the previous week's show for most viewers since the Draft.
On cable TV Friday night, Smackdown ranked #11 overall behind TBS's MLB Playoffs coverage and kid-oriented programming on cable, #6 among males 18-34, #4 among males 18-49, and #2 during its timeslot in key male demos behind baseball.
Caldwell's Analysis: Smackdown was not expected to uphold the previous week's record ratings and viewership, but Friday's show held up quite well with the second-most-watched episode since the Draft. WWE and Syfy will certainly be pleased with back-to-back shows averaging higher than a 2.0 rating and more than three million viewers while scoring seasonal highs in key demographics. Whether it's Mark Henry as World champion or some other reason contributing to the ratings surge, WWE should continue with the same storyline direction on Smackdown until there's a noticeable change in the ratings. | |
