PostA Dead-View #2: Shark Night 3D

*WARNING, THERE WILL BE SPOILERS, SO IF YOU HAVENT SEEN THIS, I SUGGEST YOU DONT READ THIS POST*

Anyone who enjoys the shark genre of horror films, knows that it is really hit and miss. There's Jaws, that will always be known as the cult classic and which legit scared beachgoers out of the water for years to come. There is also Deep Blue Sea, which showed sharks as genetically engineered cold blooded killers. Although, there are the failures such as Shark Attack, Open Water, Jaws The Revenge among many others, but this isnt about those, this is about Shark Night, lets get to it shall we?

The movie opens up with the opening credits, announcing the cast and crew and with a twist. It shows various videos of sharks attacking prey in various ways, which is unique because it gives way somewhat to the tone of the movie. The first scene, of course, is an reference to Jaws as it has a young woman and her boyfriend fooling around in the water, and as soon as he exits to go back to his trailer, the shark (it isnt shown what kind of shark it is) grabs her by the legs, thrashes her around a bit before finally pulling her under.

Next up is the college scene where most of the main cast is introduced. They talk about going up to one of the rich girls cabin, by the name of Sara, for the weekend and its kinda on a remote island. The guys meet up with the girls and begin to drive up to the cabin, where they meet 2 shady characters by the name of Dennis and Red. Red insults one of the guys girlfriends, prompting an altercation before Sara comes out and Dennis has Red back off. Little do they know, the terror that is about to begin. Later on, they get on a boat and drive up to the house, before having a race with the local sheriff (who knows Sara, seeing her family lives on the island) and tells them to be safe. The kids agree and start moving into the house, before setting off back onto the boat, with Malik doing some wakeboarding. They go farther up the lake when Malik starts being bumped by something, which knocks him off and the rest of the group go to look for him. Later on, they find Malik going up to Sara before collapsing, as its revealed that his right arm was bitten off from the elbow down. The group accuses Nick (who was driving the boat) as running him over, which he promply denied. Soon, they attempt to take Malik to safety but Dennis and Red show up and volunteer to go for help. Beth and Gordon go with them instead, where they go so far as to only stop the boat and reveal that they are the ones that put the sharks in the lake. They tell Gordon to get into the water, but he refuses and Dennis shoots him in the shoulder, then knocks Beth into a net that has Cookiecutter sharks circling around. They brutally bite her several times, until she finally dies from the loss of blood. Meanwhile, Gordon makes it to a tree but is picked off by a Mako shark that breaches out of the water.

Back at shore, Blake and Malik talk about what happened to Maya and Nick reveals that she was killed by a shark. Upset by what happened, Malik goes and grabs a harpoon and proceeds to fight with a shark in the water, but its revealed to be a Hammerhead shark and not the one that killed Maya, not to mention it also had a camera attached. Blake decides to take Malik back to the mainland to a hospital, but before they can get there, Malik sacrifices himself to a group of sharks and Blake is picked off the jetski by an enormorus Great White.

Back at the house, the sheriff shows up, but its revealed that he is in on it with Dennis and Red and they kidnap Nick and Sara. The sheriff ties Nick to a chair and hangs him above a pool with a monstrous Tiger shark and references the fact that Shark Week was the most watched series in 2010 and that people arent able to see the hardcore stuff. What he means by that is people arent seeing live shark attacks and that is what they want to see. Nick kicks over a container of gas and sets the sheriff on fire, before he falls into the pool and is eaten by the sharks.

Finally, Dennis reveals that he is bitter at Sara for leaving years ago (the 2 had a relationship before she went off to college, but she left because of a nearfatal diving date the 2 had had). Dennis and Red lower her into a shark cage, where a Mako appears, but Nick does as well, Red is killed by an errant throw from Dennis and Nick and Dennis fight into the water, where the Mako eats Dennis before Nick kills the shark with a spear. He takes Sara out of the cage before the Great White re-appears and lunges out of the water towards them.

All in all, there wasnt a lot of blood and gore (i expected much more, seeing it was a shark movie), but there was no sex in it which is good because not all horror movies need a sex scene. In conclusion, id give it 4/5 skulls.
