In a YouTube video posted on October 27th, teenage girls are seen assaulting each other at a sandwich shop in East Sacramento. During the video - that lasts for 1:48 -- the girls are seen walking into Togo's, on the 5600 block of Folsom Boulevard. The group then starts kicking and punching another girl, who was behind the counter. At one point, they even hit a guy who tried to stop the fight. "I never saw the victim. I didn't know anything had happened down here. I just knew there was a group of very angry teenage females in the complex," said a woman who asked to not be identified. The woman said she saw the girls in the shopping center as she was leaving Rite-Aid. She learned about the fight a couple days later when the video was posted on a Facebook account. She was concerned about the level of violence. "They had a bat -- that's a deadly weapon, given the right hit and right amount of anger that can kill somebody. They brazenly entered that store and just did a vicious attack," the woman said.
A Togo's manager would not speak about the incident, but an employee said the victim went inside the sandwich shop to hide.
"Our biggest concern that we have is sometimes these videos only show a small portion of the entire incident," said Sgt. Andrew Pettit of Sacramento Police. "Often times the suspects, that are on the video, are often victims or vice-versa and so that's why we have to be careful on where we place our resources," Pettit said.
Pettit said police also have to be certain, in these situations, that the video is not staged. It appears in the Togo's incident the video was captured by a bystander. An employee said police were called to the scene during the assault at Togo's.
