| Subject: Nov 7th Raw TV Ratings Are In - Raw Takes a Blow, Concerning Trend Continues Tue 08 Nov 2011, 10:03 pm | |

Raw on Monday, November 7 scored a 2.88 rating, down two-tenths from a 3.10 rating last week. Raw was just ahead of a 2.92 rating on September 26 for the lowest rating of the year outside of the Fourth of July Raw.
-- Raw nearly dipped below four million viewers, averaging 4.02 million overall viewers. The first hour averaged 4.17 million viewers and the second hour averaged 3.86 million viewers, continuing a concerning trend.
It's the eighth week out of the last 11 where Raw's second hour viewership has declined from the first hour, which was a rarity for Raw prior to this year.
Also, the average number of viewers during the second hour was just ahead of the Fourth of July Raw for fewest of the year. Otherwise, it would have been the fewest number of second hour viewers in years.
-- Raw was clearly affected by Monday Night Football competition on ESPN, as Monday's NFL game was up 40 percent in overall viewers compared to last week's game and featured two big wrestling markets (Chicago and Philadelphia) in a tightly-contested game.
On cable TV Monday night, Raw ranked #2 in key male demos, trailing football. Among teen males, Raw dropped to #7 in the second hour and #10 in the first hour.
-- Looking at the demographic drop-offs, Raw scored its lowest males 18-49 rating since July. Compared to last week, Raw was down 13.6 percent in a18-49, down 12.2 percent in m18-34, down 14.7 percent in m18-49, and down 9.7 percent in m12-34.
In addition to losing teen viewers, Raw's female demos were down one-tenth of a point compared to recent trends. It could be related to the premiere of "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" on Bravo.
Caldwell's Analysis: That second hour trend should be a concern for WWE, and they tried to create a second hour hook on last night's show by announcing Cena & Ryder vs. Miz & Truth for the main event, but they didn't make the match seem special enough to stick around for. Also, removing The Rock from the equation after last week, having Rock back on the show next week, not having much juice behind the product right now, and up against a strong MNF game spelled a tough night for WWE last night. It will be interesting to see how much The Rock boosts the ratings next week. For a live show centered around Rock, it should be back to normal levels at the very, very least. If the rating doesn't get above Raw's current normal levels (3.1-3.2 rating), then it's a case of poor WWE promotion or Rock's appeal during this season has peaked. | |
