| Subject: 5-11-12 Smackdown TV Ratings Take a Blow.. Tue 15 May 2012, 7:28 am | |

WWE Smackdown on Friday, May 11 scored a 1.7 rating, down 11 percent from last week's 1.9 rating. It was the lowest rating of the year for a first-run Friday episode.
Smackdown averaged 2.53 million viewers, down seven percent from last week's show. It was the fewest viewers for a first-run Friday episode since the show before WrestleMania on March 30.
Monday's Raw episode four days earlier had a similar week-to-week decline, dropping three-tenths of a rating and 550,000 viewers.
- On cable TV Friday night against the NBA Playoffs, Smackdown ranked #6 overall, which is one of the few times a first-run episode has not been in the Top 5 over the past two years. Also, Smackdown ranked #5 in males 18-34 and #2 in males 18-49. The show was #1 during its timeslot in m18-49.
- In the demographic ratings, Smackdown took big hits in key male demos compared to last week. The show was down 16.1 percent in m18-49, 15.3 percent in m18-34, and 8.5 percent in m12-34 versus last week.
Overall adults 18-49 & adults 18-34 were steady, though. Also, the constantly-fluctuating teen males 12-17 demo was up slightly after a huge drop-off last week. So, the gain was minimal and in the low-end of the yearly average.
- This week last year, Smackdown scored the exact same 1.7 rating and averaged 2.60 million viewers, up slightly compared to this year's show.
Caldwell's Analysis: NBA Playoffs combined with Smackdown following Raw's declining ratings created a poor result. It didn't help that WWE gave away all of the big Smackdown brand items for the week during Raw - a change to the next PPV main event and a featured tag match that was repeated on Smackdown - rendering Friday's show nearly skippable. | |
