Our forum posters have run down the least deserving performers to take home Oscars in debates over Best Supporting Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Actress and Best Actor. And they have named the worst of the Best Picture winners.
Now, they have turned their attention to the best of the best. They have already dished director and leading lady and now consider the leading man who was most deserving of an Academy Award. Below, just a sample of their thoughts.
Marcelo: My top five: 1. Jack Nicholson, "One Flew Over the Cuckoo´s Nest" 2. Anthony Hopkins, "Silence of the Lambs" 3. Daniel Day Lewis, "There Will be Blood" 4. Marlon Brando, "The Godfather" 5. F. Murray Abraham, "Amadeus
Carol Channing: My top three: 1. Philip Seymour Hoffman, "Capote" 2. F. Murray Abraham, "Amadeus" 3. Richard Dreyfuss, "The Goodbye Girl" (I know, I know ... lots of people aren't fans, but I just love him in it!)
LatelyPost: Gregory Peck in "To Kill a Mockingbird." Watched the movie in high school and Peck is amazing. Just pure perfection.
Miss Frost: Denzel Washington in "Training Day"
Daniel: My personal favourites: 1. Anthony Hopkins, "Silence of the Lambs" 2. Dustin Hoffman, "Rain Man" 3. Jack Nicholson, "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" 4. Marlon Brando, "The Godfather"

Forum users also discussed which leading lady was the most deserving of an Academy Award. Below, just a sample of their thoughts.
Marcelo: My top five is: 1. Meryl Streep, "Sophie's Choice" 2. Elizabeth Taylor, "Virginia Woolf" 3. Vivien Leigh, "A Streetcar Named Desire" 4. Liza Minnelli, "Cabaret"
Carol Channing: My top three: Hilary Swank, "Boys Don't Cry" Helen Mirren, "The Queen" Shirley Booth, "Come Back Little Sheba"
babypook: Streep's "Sophie" is for me, THE iconic perf. Incredible and unforgettable. Leigh's Scarlett is straight from the novel.
Anthony: I am going to vote for Meryl Streep in "Sophie's Choice" but in all honesty, there are a few more performances here that I just have to mention because I love them. I was very tempted to vote for Marion Cotillard because not only of the obstacles she had to overcome to win, but because her work was stunning. Yes, she did lip sync but her acting work was stellar and even her lip synching was extremely convincing. Sure, the actual movie itself was a borderline mess (especially when it focused on her early years), but she overcame that as well.
Conrado: Vivien Leigh takes my top two spots for "Gone with the Wind" and "A Streetcar Named Desire." Two of the best performances by an actress in the history of film and by the same actress.
