On September 1, 2007, Eugene was released by WWE after having some issues with drugs. It was a recurring problem, so the company decided to release him despite the fact that he was quite popular with the younger fans for his portraying of a mentally challenged wrestler.
Shortly after his release, Eugene signed back on with OVW (Ohio Valley Wrestling) where he became the person in charge of DCW (Derby City Wrestling), which was an affiliate of OVW. Eugene also stepped back into the ring for OVW, winning the heavyweight championship a few months afterwards.
WWE decided to bring Eugene back into the company. However, he may not be a full time wrestler this time around. He is expected to take part in the training and development of younger wrestlers. Eugene might still make special cameo appearances on the shows, though.
The company has always recognized his abilities as a trainer. However, it was the smarter thing for them to separate themselves from Eugene because of the drug issues.
Brock Lesnar Apologizes Brock Lesnar set the world on fire with his performance against Frank Mir at UFC 100. The UFCHeavyweight Champion successfull defended his title against the man that gave him his only loss in UFC. The former WWE Heavyweight Champion had a pretty dominant showing against Frank Mir. He was able to maintain control through much of the match (taking only a handful of shots from his opponent). The win helped to give Brock Lesnar some credibility, something that the 6'3", 270 pound fighter had been sorely lacking. However, that wasn't the performance that has the world (not just the MMA world) talking. It was his performance after the match that will be talked about at water coolers across the country on Monday morning. After beating his opponent in the second round, Brock Lesnar hurled some insults towards Frank Mir. That drew the ire of the audience, which prompted the former NCAA champion to give the middle finger to the entire arena. Brock Lesnar followed that up with an interview where he insulted Bud Light, who are one of the top sponsors for UFC, for not paying him money. He then made a joke about having sex with his wife, who was Sable in WWE. At the press conference after UFC 100, Brock Lesnar issued an apology for his antics. To be honest with you, this entire thing has been blown out of proportion. The incident isn't nearly as bad as some fans and journalists are making it out to be. Brock Lesnar isn't the first person to refuse to tap gloves with an opponent prior to the fight. He's also not the first person to verbally insult his opponent after winning the match. Of course, he might be the first person ever to use the grand stage to insult a major sponsor for the company when he made his joke about Bud Light. However, the company has received much more attention now thanks to Brock Lesnar. If you could somehow get a private conversation with UFC president Dana White behind closed doors, he'd more than likely tell you that he enjoyed what Brock Lesnar did. Brock Lesnar is drawing heel heat which is very reminiscent how the heat that Tito Ortiz drew when he flipped off Ken Shamrock after a match against one of his students. The hatred for Tito Ortiz led to UFC 40, which was headlined by a match between Tito Ortiz and Ken Shamrock, becoming one of the highest grossing pay per view event for the company. Secretly (maybe not so secretly), Dana White is hoping that the hate for Brock Lesnar is going to lead to more people purchasing the event to see him lose and finally be put in his place. It wouldn't be completely out of the question for Dana White and Brock Lesnar to conspire together to create this persona because they're both aware that MMA fans weren't going to automatically accept the big man for being a WWE star. The problem for Dana White now is finding an opponent who can play the protagonist against Brock Lesnar's super heel status. Foley's Comedy Career After years of providing laughs to wrestling fans across the world, Mick Foley has now decided to pursue a career in comedy.
On August 22, 2009, Mick Foley will be performing a comedy routine at the world famous Hollywood Improv in Los Angeles, California. As of right now, it is scheduled to be a one time appearances. Depending on how Mick Foley does, this could lead to more appearances.
For those of you that are concerned that his pursuit of a comedy career is going to interfere with his wrestling career, you shouldn't. TNA has always been a company that encourages their wrestlers to pursue other things. They're pretty flexible with schedules. That's one of the things that appeal to wrestlers who are looking to do more than just wrestling.
Poll : Seth Green's Performance What did you think about Seth Green's performance? Was he entertaining? Should WWE just find a full time general manager that has a pro wrestling background?
What's your thoughts? Seth Green on Raw When word broke out last week that Seth Green was going to be the guest host and general manager of Raw, there was a collective groan from the internet wrestling community. As wrestling fans, we've been subjected to (and tortured by) celebrity guest appearances from the likes of Donald Trump, Robocop, Chuck Norris, Chucky and David Arquette that were quite disappointing. Wrestling fans were worried that Seth Green was going to join the likes of those celebrities and be forever remembered in wrestling lore as one of the worst celebrity appearances ever. However, Seth Green decided that he was going to join the likes of Kevin Federline and Dennis Rodman, two guys who ended up being better performers than any of us had a right to imagine. Based on the reaction from wrestling fans around the world, Seth Green did a phenomenal job with his appearance on Raw. There's still a handful of wrestling fans out there that are confused as to why Seth Green was given such a prominent role on Raw this week. This agreement is all about business. Seth Green, who provides the voice of Chris Griffin on the ever popular Family Guy television show, agreed to do the appearance so that he can promote his upcoming DVD release of Chicken Robot. In exchange, WWE wanted to utilize the actor because it would bring in some media attention. Probably not as much attention as Donald Trump was able to draw in, but it's still better than nothing. Guys like Batista and Ted DiBiase make more sense from a wrestling fan's perspective, but from a business perspective (which is where Vince McMahon always looks), Seth Green was the more attractive option. Media attention is also the same reason why we're going to see ZZ Top as the guest hosts and general managers of Raw next week. WWE is hoping that the band can generate some media coverage for the company. The wrestling purists would much rather see someone that has a wrestling background take over the role. Arn Anderson, Sgt Slaughter, Dusty Rhodes, Dean Malenko, Ricky Steamboat or any of the other former wrestlers who are still on good terms with WWE would make sense. However, as beloved as those guys are, none of them would draw any media attention if they assumed the role of interim general manager. It's sad how that works out, but it's just how the world is run. We either accept it or we look like fools complaining about it. If you're wondering why ZZ Top is agreeing to do this, it's because they have a huge tour with Aerosmith going on. Pretty sure that their agent set this up to get some free advertising from WWE. | |
