Fresh Feuds in TNA When WCW died, a lot of fans unwittingly believed that every single thing that the promotion did was wrong. They based this on the fact that the company folded, and these fans (usually on the bottom half of the intelligence ladder) deal in absolutes.
Not everything can be wrong when you factor in that WCW did something that was difficult to imagine - they defeated Vince McMahon and WWE (even if it was just for a year or so). Some of the things they did had to have been right for that to have happened.
One of the many things that WCW did right was that they were willing to constantly bring in new wrestlers (thanks to the deep pockets of Ted Turner) to provide fresh new matchups. That's what kept it from growing stale for a period of time.
Over the last year or so, TNA has proven to be a company that has not shied away from bringing in new wrestlers in hopes of providing fresh matchups that will keep the fans interested.
Fresh feuds have to happen in TNA.
A lot of wrestling fans might not respect the likes of Vince Russo and Dutch Mantell. They've gotten bad reputations (some of which is a bit unfair, to be honest) from the audience for their previous work and their current association with TNA.
However, I'm going to do them a favor by throwing out some friendly suggestions for fresh feuds. Not trying to do their jobs, but just trying to help out.
- Mick Foley vs Abyss - Abyss states that this would be his dream program to work, and it's hard to disagree with him. This could be the feud that puts Abyss as a more consistent main event player.
- Kurt Angle vs Bobby Lashley - This matchup could easily headline a TNA pay per view. It could also be a WWE pay per view main event as well.
- Matt Morgan vs Kevin Nash - While he might be 50 years old, Kevin Nash is still capable of putting people over. He could pass the torch to Matt Morgan as the next big man.
- Hernandez vs Samoa Joe - This match might not be a pay per view main event right now, but it could be a few years from now. I can guarantee you that the match would be brutal and entertaining to see.
- Mr Kennedy vs Sting - What better rub could Mr Kennedy get than by working with a legend like Sting? Could be the program that makes Mr Kennedy a main event performer finally.
- Tara (formerly known as Victoria) vs Awesome Kong - This is a program that everyone has been waiting to see. Between their experience and excellent in-ring performances, this could be a match that steals the show.
- Umaga vs Samoa Joe - Umaga probably will be more human than beast if he does sign, but that doesn't mean that we can't have a great Samoan Street Fight between him and Samoa Joe.
Put a couple of these matches on a pay per view, and I'm pretty sure that's going to spark enough curiosity from fans to get them to spend some money.
TNA In Playboy Wrestling fans used to go wild whenever a WWE diva would grace the covers of Playboy magazine. Record numbers would be broken whenever the two industries would intersect.
The numbers proved that wrestling fans were curious to see what their favorite female wrestlers looked like without clothes on.
When WWE and Playboy magazine stopped working together, that left a bit of a void with wrestling fans. It's been well over a year since Maria Kanellis appeared as the centerfold for the magazine.
On various message boards across the internet, wrestling fans have discussed which of the current group of WWE divas they would love to see in Playboy. Occasionally, the topic of conversation would switch over to the TNA Knockouts.
Many had people had dismissed the chance of TNA signing a deal with Playboy, quite simply, because dismissing TNA's ability to do business was the popular thing to do.
However, TNA has managed to come through and gotten the deal with Playboy magazine done. The Knockouts should start appearing in the magazine soon enough.
This deal with Playboy is going to be something that the critics are going to jump on immediately and blindly.
The Knockouts division is one of the few things in TNA that is immune to the critics that will hate everything that the company is doing because of their loyalty to WWE. The gals in TNA have done such a superb job that it's difficult to blindly bash them.
Even those that hate TNA are willing to admit that the Knockouts division is a quality one that is focused on wrestling and looks.
The easy thing to say against TNA now is that they're going to try to emulate WWE by hiring just girls that can appear in the magazine. However, the company does have a huge base of female performers that are great at what they do.
If you're wondering why they're doing this thing with Playboy, it's the exact same reason why WWE did. This is a business move that is designed to bring more attention to the company.
There's going to be a handful of guys that read Playboy that are going to start tuning into TNA out of curiosity because of the girls that posed in the magazine. Whether or not they stick around as weekly viewers is another issue.
There's a lot of gals in TNA that are tremendously pleasing to the eyes.
So Cal Val is great for those of us that are into gals that have that innocent look. Lauren Brooke is the ultimate blonde hair beauty. When it comes to fiery redheads, it doesn't get much better than Christy Hemme.
However, the one Knockout that could become a superstar thanks to this thing with Playboy is Velvet Sky. She's an incredible woman to stare at for hours, and she has so much potential to draw in new viewers for TNA.
Shane Helms (her real life boyfriend) is an extremely lucky man, and WWE dropped the ball pretty badly by not giving her a chance (despite the fact that she tried so hard to get signed).
Chris Jericho's Mystery Partner At the Bash, Chris Jericho made headlines when he and Edge shockingly won the WWE Undisputed Tag Team Championship in a match that they were not advertised to be involved in.
By combining two of the top heels in the entire wrestling world into a single unit, WWE had managed to create a buzz within the internet wrestling community. Fans were chatting all over the place, wondering just how far these guys are going to go.
Unfortunately, though, we may never know just how great Edge and Chris Jericho could have been as a tandem. Edge suffered a serious injury that will require him to miss several months of action.
Plans had to be changed.
WWE decided to go with the "mystery partner" route, which meant that wrestling fans would spend hours upon hours trying to guess who he would choose as Edge's replacement.
After weeks of speculation, Chris Jericho finally unveiled his mystery partner.
The mystery partner is the Big Show.
To be honest with you, there wasn't a lot of excitement when it was revealed that it was the Big Show who would be Chris Jericho's partner.
Nothing against the guy, but he's treading dangerously close to being in the same zone as Kane, where every feud that he's involved with ends up sapping away any and all momentum.
The blame doesn't fall completely on the Big Show. The way he's been used in the past year hasn't exactly made the audience yearn to see him.
It also doesn't help that wrestling fans from across the world were able to come up with some pretty good ideas as to who should have been the mystery partner.
Names like Dolph Ziggler, Chris Masters, Jack Swagger, and the Miz were all thrown out there, and there were some really great ideas behind each of these guys.
Not really sure that I recalled seeing the Big Show's name mentioned on any of the message boards that I browsed through.
That's a sign that wrestling fans didn't particularly want to see Big Show as the mystery partner.
Just because the fans didn't want to see it doesn't necessarily mean that this storyline is going to be a bust. As wrestling fans, we have been wrong on more than one occasion about storylines.
While it's true that the Big Show doesn't have a lot of interest and momentum right now, the same cannot be said for Chris Jericho, who still reigns as the most entertaining personality in WWE today.
Hopefully, some of Chris Jericho's momentum can rub off on the Big Show.
By having someone the size of the Big Show in his corner, Chris Jericho's character can then become an even bigger braggart, which should cause the fans to react even more to him.
Maryse InjuredMaryse has re-injured her knee again and could be put on the sidelines.
The former WWE Diva's Champion has had ongoing issues with her kneecap. Up until now, Maryse had been able to avoid surgery. Now, though, it looks like she won't be able to avoid it much longer.
On Monday, Maryse was sent down to Birmingham, Alabama to see the world renown Dr. James Andrew. He will examine her and let her know if surgery will be required (more than likely). WWE generally sends their top stars down to Dr. James Andrew whenever major surgery is required.
The belief is that the company decided to put the WWE Diva's Championship on Mickie James because of the injury to Maryse. No word yet on who WWE will choose as the new top heel while Maryse recovers. The guess right now would be to utilize Beth Phoenix again.
Tyler Black's Golden Opportunity Austin Aries could have a brand new challenger for his ROH World Title which opens up a huge opportunity for one rising star.
A little over a week ago Nigel McGuinness basically implied that when Bryan Danielson and Tyler Black clash for the third time on HDNet, the winner could be in line for a future ROH World title shot.
This week Nigel McGuinness appeared yet again, making another remark about the outcome of the match. He claimed that he may know who the next ROH Champion could be. On both accounts he didn’t mention any names, which left the situation up in the air as he showed no favouritism.
In their first encounter on HDNet, Bryan Danielson and Tyler Black wrestled to a twenty-minute draw which literally had the fans begging for just five more minutes. The fans got their wish a few weeks later but the match was declared a double count out as neither Bryan Danielson or Tyler Black were able to make it back into the ring after the ROH twenty count.
However, their third match saw a clear winner emerge. Tyler Black did something he hasn’t been able to do in singles competition since ROH’s television debut.
Tyler Black pinned Bryan Danielson.
Since winning the ROH World title from Jerry Lynn in June, Austin Aries hasn’t had a real rivalry with anyone on television. ROH only has one hour of television time a week so that time is mostly dedicated to wrestling, but several of the wrestlers are still able to maintain feuds and the same should happen for Austin Aries.
Tyler Black is a talented young wrestler who has been pinned as the future of ROH. He was given the very first main event slot on ROH’s HDNet programming and has showed promise to develop into a very solid wrestler. His series of three matches with Bryan Danielson helped to expose Tyler Black’s potential, so right now the sky is the limit for him.
Picking the rising star to challenge the first ever two-time ROH Champion would certainly help in building a solid future for Tyler Black in ROH.
ROH are in a position that in being so new to television, they don’t have to worry so much about their main event scene like WWE and TNA do. They have a group of wrestlers who are certainly stand outs but they can afford to start developing new young stars to feed into their main event scene to prevent it from growing stale. Giving a young guy a huge chance like this while ROH are so new to television presents an opportunity for the company to build up some younger stars right away.
This presents a huge opportunity for Tyler Black. He’s been showcased quite often on HDNet as a fast rising star, so newcomers to ROH like myself have been able to see what he’s capable of. He’s been given time in interviews for fans to get to know him a little better as well.
Giving Tyler Black this time helps viewers to see him as a more credible threat to the World champion. Plus, the two have already wrestled each other on HDNet in a fatal four way, they just haven’t clashed in singles competition yet. Sending Tyler Black after Austin Aries as a credible challenger would give ROH a feud for their champion that can be viewed on television, plus something that they can carry over and develop off television as well.
After seeing what Tyler Black can do with Bryan Danielson in a series of face vs face matches, the possibilities seem endless when Tyler Black is put into a feud with heel Austin Aries. It would also help Tyler Black to develop more as a wrestler and on screen character if they allow the feud to evolve and expand with Austin Aries guiding him.
Picking up a win over the champion in a non-title match could work to get Tyler Black into the head of the champion, knowing that he is capable of pinning Austin Aries. Plus, Austin Aries could always bring in back up by utilizing young tag team Rhett Titus and Kenny King to help him keep his championship which could bring even more heat for Austin Aries, help elevate Rhett Titus and Kenny King, and garner more support for Tyler Black as he struggles to overcome the three-strong alliance.
ROH should capitalise on the position that they are in so when they are a bit more exposed to a national audience, they have a roster and main event full of fresh new talent that opens up dozens more possibilities.
Tyler Black is the first step in the right direction for this to happen.
New Legacy Shirt Those original Legacy shirts must have sold well because here's a new one.
